Why do I need a vignette in Hungary?
To use the toll road network in Hungary, you must buy a motorway vignette from an official provider at least 60 minutes before your trip.
If caught without a valid vignette or with false information, you'll have to pay 16,220 forints (about 41 euros). If you don't pay within 60 days, the amount increases to 64,850 forints (around 165 euros), plus VAT and a processing fee.

How to buy a vignette for Hungary online, avoiding penalties?
Available types of vignettes and prices in Hungary in 2024
Depending on the period of toll road use, there are different types of e-vignettes:
Daily
1 day vignette
This vignette is valid for all toll roads in Hungary from 00:00 to 23:59 on the indicated calendar day if purchased in advance. If purchased on the same day, it remains valid from the time of purchase until 00:00 on that day.
10-day
10-day vignette
Valid for 10 consecutive calendar days.
Monthly
Monthly vignette
The monthly e-vignette is valid from the start date until midnight of the same day of the following month. If the expiry month doesn’t have the same date, it’s valid until 00:00 on the last day of the month.
Annual
Year vignette
The annual vignette is valid for all toll roads in Hungary from the first day of the year until 00:00 on 31 January of the following year.
In Hungary, motorway vignettes can be purchased in different fee categories:
Motorcycle
Includes single-track motor vehicles such as motorbikes.
Car
Passenger car with a maximum permissible laden weight of up to 3.5 tonnes and carrying a maximum of 7 passengers.
Other vehicle
Any vehicle capable of carrying more than 7 persons, any lorry not exceeding 3.5 tonnes, or any vehicle not belonging to another fee category and not considered a vehicle subject to tolls under a special law.
